Dash fonts have letters that have a dashed line pattern as the outline. Sometimes the letters instead have horizontal dash marks. Dashed fonts can be used for students learning to trace letters, or for making sewing designs.

The program is based on research that indicates ovals and slanted lines are easier for children to form than round circles and straight lines.

Letter size is reduced, and uppercase and lowercase letters are designed to be as similar as possible.

Most letters are formed using a single continuous stroke making the transition to cursive writing very easy. The single stroke formation also helps minimize reversal problems.

Microsoft Office does not automatically load contextual alternate substitution. Therefore, letter pairs such as ow and ve will not connect until this feature is turned on.

  1. Press Ctrl or ⌘ + D to open the Fonts dialog box
  2. Click Advanced
  3. Set Ligatures to Standard and Contextual
  4. Set Use contextual alternates to true

The Cursive Alphabet font, the Cursive Alphabet Dashed font, and the Cursive Alphabet Stroked font are designed for displaying single letters. This font is not designed to connect letters into words but may be used for flashcards or as a sample for single letter practice.
