The game plays out as if you're being broadcast on a live news channel with the constant and engaging quips of the reporter-slash-narrator talking about your every move. Triton has taken over all of the buildings in Bikini Bottom and it's up to you to restore them to their original form by bring each one of them down. Basically, you just have to knock the buildings over or punch them until they blow up while you fend off Krabby Patty soldiers in the process. (You can also eat those mutant Patties, if you want to.) SpongeBob or Patrick will only have some pretty basic moves at first but you will be able to unlock some special abilities as you play on.
You will be able to earn smiting points as you pillage through buildings and the Patties in the different levels. These allow you to level up and increase your character's Jump, Speed, Attack, and Health abilities. You will reach milestones in every category and eventually gain some new moves once you've accumulated enough points.
The Good
SpongeBob and the Clash of Triton is a simple and entertaining action game that you can probably finish in a week of two if you have a go at it everyday. Many games that are adapted from animated series or TV shows often have hastily done graphics that look like bad knock-offs but that isn't the case for this game.
The Bad
The game has a simple premise but the controls aren't that easy to follow. The tutorial does a good job of teaching you the basics, but I find that it was laid out a bit too messily on the screen. You will be able to get a better hang of the controls and the possible combinations that you can use to perform special actions as you play along, but it might be a bit tougher when you first start out.
The Verdict
SpongeBob and the Clash of Triton is a good game overall and it didn't lose the quirkiness or inaneness of either of the two main characters from the show. Even though the game is targeted for younger audiences, this can also be quite entertaining for an hour (or two or more) for the older crowd as well.
